33 Singaporean tourists were involved in a bus-truck collision at 9:40am Japan time (8:40am Singapore time) in Hokkaido – killing the drivers of both vehicles and injuring 14 Singaporeans on-board.
According to The Straits Times, one of the injured passengers was seriously hurt. All of them have been sent to the hospital.
The head-on collision occured at National Highway Number 5 of Nanae Town, Southern Hokkaido, where the bus was travelling towards Sapporo.
An eyewitness recounted how the bus was trying to avoid the oncoming truck, which had veered into the wrong lane, before both vehicles crashed.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been notified of the case. The Singapore Embassy in Tokyo is working alongside Japanese authorities to assist the affected Singaporeans.
