Police have arrested four men aged 12 to 18, for setting off an "improvised explosive device" or a 'sparkler rocket', in Ang Mo Kio.
After responding to a call for assistance at about 10:30pm on Jul. 30, officers spotted bundled sparklers in the neighbourhood and eventually found and captured the four teenagers involved.
The 18-year-old suspect will be charged in court tomorrow for Public Nuisance with Common Intention, which is punishable with a fine of up to $1,000. Investigations against the other three are still on-going.
Police say that since July this year, there have been a total of 17 of such cases, leading to the arrest of 72 people.
The public is reminded that 'sparker rockets' are a potential fire hazard, and cause noise pollution and undue alarm. The resulting blast effect and fire from the explosion also endangers lives and can damage property.
