On Tuesday, Clementi NPC officers on anti-crime patrol stopped a man, who was behaving suspiciously at Commonwealth Avenue West. After some probing, the 36-year-old man was arrested for suspected involvement in illegal moneylending activities.
Turns out he'd misused Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) that he took from other debtors to perform ATM transactions related to the loansharking business.
Two ATM cards, a mobile phone and a stack of bank transaction receipts were uncovered upon his arrest.
Investigations are still underway. If found guilty, he may face up to $300,000 fine, a jail term of four years, and six strokes of the cane.
