Gambling scene in Singapore is a "no-win situation": MP Denise Phua10 years ago, Singapore authorised licensed casino operators in order to open up job positions as a means to recover from the economic recession. However, it could be time for a shift of focus for the government to dissuade gambling activities as an economic or social activity.  In Parliament yesterday, Moulmein-Kallang GRC MP Ms. Denise Phua expressed her concerns for the gambling scene in Singapore, saying it’s time for our red dot to “take a bold step and reject gambling, whether remote or on-site”.   According to Channel NewsAsia, Ms. Phua explained that we should put just as much emphasis on our stance regarding licensed gambling – whether online or via brick-and-mortar casinos – as we do on basic principles such as “family is the first port of call for help” and that “extra marital relationships are not encouraged”.   Ms. Phua’s also in full support of the Remote Gambling Bill in Parliament to put a total ban on gambling – including the current exempted licensed operators.  "(Exempt operators) will have to put in their best to lure customers to meet their KPI (key performance indicators) of being good in their trade and be profitable. If they become extremely good, they will no doubt achieve their KPIs and bonuses, they will also ruin more lives. However, if they are half-hearted in making their remote gambling license bear financial fruit, they would be ineffective in helping the State learn the ropes of enforcement," said Ms. Phua."It's a no-win situation."  Photo: Marina Bay Sands' Facebook    Read Also:  Singapore gets first gold-dispensing ATMs
