For as long as we can remember, there's only been one street singer at Tampines MRT: a Malay man believed to be visually impaired, with an impressive, all-inclusive song repertoire.
In recent months he's been joined by a younger — and may we add, unsettlingly buff — man, whom observers are saying is his son.
The old man's keyboard doesn't make an appearance when he's around — instead, he plays the cahoon in support of his son's guitar-playing and singing, which has apparently won the hearts of residents in Tampines.
Here's a video of him singing Imagine Dragons'"Demons":
Netizens who've seen him perform at Tampines MRT have only good things to say about him. Many have described him as "stunning" and worthy of stopping for on a busy street. One has even said he's better to watch than "any crappy talent show on Channel 5" , while others commend his efforts to help his father.
Some claim to have known him or seen him perform in the past. "He used to sing with this man whom I think is his father, years ago. His singing has improved," said one. Another has described his former classmate as a "genuinely nice guy". "Glad to see an old buddy doing what he loves and getting appreciated for it," he commented on an SGAG video that showed the man singing an impressive cover of Avril Lavigne's "When You're Gone".
And of course the man has lady fans, several of whom can be seen in the videos photographing him and popping coins into the donation box. When they've stopped gushing about his voice on the internet, they'll start on his manly figure. "I just want to touch his arms," wrote one, tagging her other girlfriends to join the conversation.
