Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has promised that tourists and locals alike can expect a bigger, more spectacular Singapore Zoo by 2020, according to Channel NewsAsia.
The Prime Minister stated in a ‘live’ forum broadcast on Channel NewsAsia and Channel 5 on Sept. 4 that the zoo at Mandai will be undergo a dramatic makeover to include the Bird Park, which will be relocated from its current site in Jurong.
He stressed that the development plans will centre itself around enhancing the nature reserve instead of impinging on it, and that it will also feature open public areas where people can wander around for other activities.
Speaking to various media, Wildlife Reserves Singapore chairman Claire Chiang mentioned that the expansion will revolve around their mission of biodiversity and conservation, adding that the new zoo will make a stamp on the global perspective on environmental sustainability.
