A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said yesterday that Singapore strongly condemns the recent brutal murder of American journalist Steven Sotloff by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
According to a statement released yesterday in response to media queries, the spokesman wrote, " ISIS, and what it represents, is a real and present danger to countries in the Middle East as well as the rest of the world.”, conveying its deepest condolences to Sotloff’s family.
The MFA also reiterates their insistence for the release of all hostages and stresses the “critical need for the international community to work closely together to counter this threat”.
The militant group are now reportedly controlling an area the size of Britain, with US President Barack Obama recently pledging to eradicate the ISIS threat.
