Marital dissolutions increased in number last year even as the number of marriages fell, according to a 2013 statistical report on marriages and divorces by the Department of Statistics.
Last year saw a 6% dip in marriages from 2012 to 26,254, whereas dissolutions (divorces and annulments) increased 4% to 7,525.
The decline in registered marriages resulted from decreased civil marriages despite an increase in Muslim unions.
The gathering of divorce statistics by the department commenced back in 1981, and the 2013 report is the 30th in a series of publications, Today Online reported.
