Singapore is already one of the world’s cleanest cities… but it’s about to get even more spotless.
The “Keep Singapore Clean” movement was launched today by education minister Heng Swee Keat, and aims to instil responsibility in young students with regards to the environment, according to a press release from the Public Hygiene Council.
“Students can learn to take ownership of our community spaces and our Singapore,” he said. “It will help [them] develop empathy and responsibility, a sense of belonging and commitment to the community, and a deep understanding of our interdependence.”
Next year, PHC will provide Primary 4 students with a checklist to reflect on their habits and environmental impact. Primary 5 students will write postcards to juniors to encourage them to develop good habits.
Tongs will be provided in the litter-picking toolkit from PHC, which is pretty awesome.
