Singapore's Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin took to Facebook yesterday in a valiant move to connect with Singapore's online community.
Hosted by the Singapore Government's e-engagement platform, Reach Singapore's #AskMe Series is the government's latest effort in assimilating itself with the city-state's ever-growing online presence in matters of national policy.
During the chat session, the most frequently asked questions pertained to the matters of overtime pay systems, CPF (Central Provident Fund) and HDB housing upgrades, reports Channel NewsAsia.
Other politicians who recognise the importance of connecting with netizens include Baey Yam Keng, who hosts a Facebook chat session every first Sunday of the month from 10pm to midnight, as well as Trade and Industry Minister Teo Ser Luck, who regularly updates his Facebook with official news, campaign stuff and personal insights, much like Minister of Parliament (MP) Inderjit Singh.
There's also Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) Janice Koh, who displays acute Web 2.0 skills by being just the right kind of transparent — with the occasional cheesy family photo — along with Ministers Indranee Rajah and K. Shanmugam, both of whom document their every political move with the social medium.
