A day after a petition was launched against "gutter politics", somebody assumed that the Prime Minister's own sister signed it.

The petition itself was launched by veteran thespian Neo Swee Lin following her emotional speech at a rally held by the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) on Tuesday. Accompanied by an open letter signed by many other prominent pundits in the arts and academia, the petition opposed the People's Action Party's alleged gutter politics — in which personal attacks and character assassination upon SDP's Dr Chee Soon Juan were carried out by the people in power.

While folks and families were enjoying themselves prepping up for Chinese New Year, one woman experienced the worst night of her life when she was snatched and violently raped — three times.

The scarring incident on the evening of Feb 9, 2013 left the victim traumatised, with her having an "adjustment reaction" to her ordeal, according to the Institute of Mental Health.

The alleged rapist appeared in court yesterday to plead guilty to two counts of rape, one count each of outraging a woman's modesty and sexually penetrating her without consent. The New Paper reports that 30-year-old Lim Choon Beng had initially claimed trial to his charges, claiming that he could not remember his actions.

Ever since word got out that Goodwood Park Hotel bakery's famous durian puffs have been causing less than savoury effects, more have stepped out to claim that they too were hit by food poisoning.

Right now, the count stands at a total of 183 food poisoning cases that can be linked to the consumption of the bakery's durian pastries. This would be more than twice the initial number of 76 cases originally reported by the National Environment Agency (NEA), Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore.

In case you have a life outside keeping track of video gaming news (can't wait for Uncharted 4, which will be proper LIT — pity about some batches being literally among thieves), you might not have heard of Masquerada: Songs and Shadows. The indie game is blowing up right now in a major way — and what a pleasant surprise to know that it's being produced by our fellow Singaporeans in local start-up Witching Hour Studios.

With hours left till the end of the campaign, they've already surpassed way beyond their initial goal of £45,000 (accumulating over £57,000), multiple notable backers, voice actors and massive international coverage.

During the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) rally on Tuesday, supporters jeered in ire hearing Dr Chee Soon Juan's lament about the state of employment in Singapore.

"In all of last year, the Government created only 100 jobs," Dr Chee had said. "Yes, you heard it right, 100 jobs for citizens and permanent residents".

"That means one job per constituency. Voters of Bukit Batok, only one job was created per constituency. How many of you voters here think you are going to fight for that one job if and when you are retrenched?"

Clearly miffed, The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) issued an actual statement to rebut the SDP chief the following day. They insisted that Dr Chee has misunderstood their data and "painted an alarmist picture of the job market" for locals.

White rice is one of the top concerns in the war against diabetes

Stop shovelling so much white rice unto your plate. As it turns out, white rice is a greater cause of diabetes than sugar-filled soft drinks. According to The Straits Times, Health Promotion Board chief executive Zee Yoong Kang identified white rice as a top concern when it comes to diabetes. Although obesity and sugary drinks are the usual causes for Caucasians, Asians are actually more prone to diabetes, and starchy white rice can fill our bodies with an excess of blood sugar and heighten our risk of the disease.

Singaporeans will soon have an easier opportunity to appreciate Australia's boundless crop of deadly animals when multi-year visa arrangements between the two countries kick in.

Currently, a visa is mandatory for all visitors — except Australian and New Zealand citizens —regardless of the purpose of the visit. Tourists, students, businessmen and wannabe bogans all need to apply for visas, which are valid for up to one year.

A joint announcement by Australia and Singapore however unveiled that they're working on easier access between both countries.

"Australia and Singapore have agreed in-principle on a tailored multi-year visa arrangement to facilitate travel and entry of Singapore nationals who are pre-vetted by the Singapore government".

Somebody give this Singapore Airlines (SIA) stewardess an award — she just exemplified the  utmost quality customer service up in the air.

A recent 12-hour flight from Singapore to Frankfurt was a memorable one for Shazy Tan, whose recent Facebook post went viral for all the right reasons. Seated next to an elderly Slovenian lady, Tan witnessed how one SIA stewardess went above (literally) and beyond her duties to ensure the comfort and safety of 92-year-old Draga, who was also diabetic. Read Tan's narration of of her experience below:

New telco Circles.Life threatens to disrupt old-fashioned, stifling mobile service plans

Make way for an all-new, all-different telecommunications company that threatens to disrupt the mobile service industry in Singapore.

Forget the traditional notions of queuing up at stores, signing two-year service contracts and getting bogged down by cramped data limits — new telco Circles.Life promises to be a fully digital experience that sports modular data-centric services.

What that means is that customers only pay for what they want, rather than paying for whatever plans the telco has on offer. What that means is that consumers have bigger control over their bills and mobile service usage — the amount of data, call minutes, text messages, payment methods and more are all chosen by users.

'Irredeemable'— a comic in which a fallen superhero sinks Singapore — gets big screen adaptation

Fresh off the current wave of superheroes questioning the morality and ramifications of their superheroics (Batman V Superman, Civil War), the time is ripe for a film adaptation of Irredeemable— a comic book series that asks 'What if Superman was hopelessly insane?'

It's a wonderfully twisted premise that imagines an invincible alien/superbeing — The Plutonian — going off the deep end and starts slaughtering the very people he once protected. As you can imagine, it's a very, very dark series in which the world's greatest superhero just snaps and turns into the world's greatest supervillain — a study in how moralities can warp in the face of reality.
