When a list demands the names of the top goalkeepers in the footballing world, one would think of David De Gea, Petr Cech, Edwin Van Der Sar, and many other goalies in Europe.

British newspaper The Telegraph however believes that our very own Hassan Sunny should stand proudly among the world's best. According to them, the 32-year-old — who's currently playing for Army United in the Thai Premier League — is the 18th best goalkeeper in the world.

Noted to be the only goalie in the list never to have played in Europe, the Telegraph recognises his talents as one of the finest Asian talents who had superb career in 2015, and narrowly edged out Australia's Mat Ryan.

She was seen knocking down a motorbike with her black BMW, and seemingly tried to drive away — until the motorbike owner himself Bahrom Sarmiten chasing after the car to stop her. The artsy-fartsy surroundings of the Civic District and Bras Basah Bugis will be getting a leg up from the government in the form of $3 million pumped into revitalisation efforts over the next three years.

Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu announced that the funds will be used to ramp up efforts by the National Heritage Board (NHB) and National Arts Council (NAC) in expanding programming and publicity as well as build social and civic connections.

Arts and heritage groups and other stakeholders will be engaged to create places that people want to visit, and feature local artistic content prominently in culturally vibrant places.

Last Saturday, around 3am, four Singaporeans were attacked at a night club in Johor's Kluang district. It is believed that they had harassed a woman, provoking her furious boyfriend to command more than 20 men from a secret society to beat them up. Items suspected to be used in the fight include a machete, two iron rods, three rattan sticks and a baseball bat — all were seized by the Malaysian police.

One Singaporean was admitted to the hospital, while the other three suffered injuries from the fight. The club manager and a waiter were also hospitalised, but all three are said to be in stable conditions. Five men, aged between 20 and 52, were arrested on Tuesday.

The nation's second-favourite tech shopping haunt (Sim Lim Square is still the best, despite its many flaws), will be closing its doors for three years starting this July, but that doesn't mean it'll have to be a dreary affair.

In a campaign titled "#BeyondIT", real estate firm CapitaLand wants the public to submit their ideas for Funan DigitaLife Mall, which will be redeveloped into a creative hub of sorts.

"We wanted to involve the public in the redevelopment of this Singapore landmark; by inviting them to share with us their aspirations for the new integrated development and journey with us as the mall embarks on the future," said CapitaLand Limited President and Group CEO Lim Ming Yan.

Heart of the Haze is the name of the documentary filmed at the peak of the 2015 Southeast Asian haze by Channel NewsAsia's Get Real team. As Indonesia experienced one of its worst cases of forest and plantation fires since 1997, the crew braved sky-high air pollution levels in Central Kalimantan to give a voice to people on the street affected by the haze, speaking to villagers, doctors, activists, research scientists, fire fighters and more.

A lone protestor who demonstrated against the Singapore judiciary got his day in court yesterday as he got charged taking part in public assemblies without permit, Channel NewsAsia reports. Not exactly rabble-rousing protests either — he carried out his dissent alone.

On Mar 2, 40-year-old Yan Jun had allegedly gone to Istana Park displaying placards stating "no judicial corruption in the Supreme Court of Singapore" and "protest against High Court of Singapore for miscarriage of justice".

Prior to that, Yan was at High Street Centre along North Bridge Road (pretty close to the Supreme Court) on Apr 13, displaying placards alleging "judicial corruption" in the Supreme Court.

Out of all the now-infamous botched wedding photos put up by newlywed Jaclyn Ying, one image stood out from the pack.

Unquestionably, it's the one with the forlorn blue-shirted dude staring longingly in the direction of the bride and groom, his face grim with the knowledge that he was... 25 minutes too late.

So, of course, someone had to do a music video starring the woeful man, set to the Michael Learns to Rock classic. Watch the video below, courtesy of Sure Boh Singapore:

Syrena mermaid

Always wanted to meet a mermaid in real life? Or perhaps The Little Mermaid was your favourite childhood movie and you spent days fantasising about splashing your fins in the ocean, humming the tune of 'Under the Sea'? Well, this year's Asia Dive Expo is about to make all your dreams come true, as five mermaids from around the region will make an appearance at the weekend event.

On the line-up is, of course, Syrena, our very own first-ever mermaid and the founder of Singapore Mermaid School. Others include Dada Li from China, Odessa Bugarin from the Philippines, and Hidy Yu and Joyce Ng from Hong Kong. You can take pics with the mermaids, watch them perform in the dive tank, get your hands on mermaid merch, and even swim around with water nymphs in the pool.

The debate on state censorship and funding in the arts was raised again in Parliament yesterday when Non-Constituency Member of Parliament Leon Perera mentioned that restrictions are holding back "all that Singapore art could be".

He had directed his question to The Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu, asking if her ministry could consider removing the restriction on National Arts Council (NAC) funding to artists. The restriction maintains that recipients of funding should not be critical of national leaders and institutions — AKA no biting of the hands that feed.

Believed to have disappeared months ago while on the run from the authorities, serial provoker Amos Yee reared his messy-haired head once again in public with a new video that sees him belittling the beliefs of Christians.

The last we heard from the teenager was back in early January, when he announced that he was under police investigation for the 'intention to wound religious feelings' (again), thanks to online posts made against Islam.

For many of us, data is a nebulous concept, something that you can't really put a finger on.

The exhibition Big Bang Data, which arrives at ArtScience Museum next month for its Asian premiere after touring three continents, hopes to change that as it translates the concept of data into something visual, sometimes tactile, through interactive installations, historical artefacts and contemporary data-driven artworks.

Rugby 7s

Top-level sevens returns to steamy Singapore for the first time in a decade this weekend as rugby looks for another foothold in Asia and teams firm up their plans for the Rio Olympics.

Two-time Rugby World Cup-winner Sonny Bill Williams will press his Olympic bid with New Zealand but Australia's Nick "Honey Badger" Cummins is out with an ankle injury as the sevens series nears its conclusion.

With only two more stops after Singapore, Fiji lead the 10-leg world series from New Zealand after they established themselves as Olympic favourites by beating their rivals in last week's Hong Kong final.

Organisers will keep a close eye on ticket sales for the event on Saturday and Sunday at the 55,000-seat National Stadium, as Singapore tries to make a name for itself on the sevens circuit.

Watch: Giant pandas Jia Jia and Kai Kai showing signs of mating behaviour

After news of the River Safari's Giant Panda Forest closing to give Jia Jia and Kai Kai privacy for their second attempt at baby-making, you've probably been wondering how they're doing. Well, it seems their mating session on Apr 13 wasn't successful, an apparently uncommon occurrence for young and inexperienced pandas. So a decision was made to conduct artificial insemination to help the naturally timid Jia Jia conceive.

But because giant pandas have delayed implantation during pregnancy, we won't know if Jia Jia's actually knocked up till sometime in September, when the vets and keepers can confirm the pregnancy through ultrasound scans.

Make sure to arrive in leotards and headbands, and expect the 67-year-old singer to belt out hits like "I Honestly Love You,""You're The One That I Want," "Summer Nights," and, of course, "Physical."

Gentle Bones is back with a brand new sound. Gone are the guitar-heavy indie folk-pop tunes like 'Elusive' and 'Save Me'— instead, the homegrown singer-songwriter is headed towards a darker, bass-driven R&B and electronic direction.

'Geniuses & Thieves' is the new single from his upcoming as-of-yet untitled EP, and it's a great track to groove to. Watch the music video to experience the enigmatic vibes for yourself.

Oh, and if you haven't gotten your tickets for his first-ever solo concert, do it now. The Jun 10 date with opening act .gif is sold out, but you can still see him on Jun 11 with fellow local singer-songwriter Linying.
