Detained for using a fake Indonesian passport to enter Singapore, a 55-year-old Singaporean is currently on the run after he managed to escape from a detention centre in Batam.

Damar Bahadur Chettri — also known as Sam Chettri — was reportedly caught by Indonesian immigration authorities at the Batam Centre International Ferry Terminal on Dec 22 last year. He was arrested on the ferry itself, which was headed towards Singapore.

As we've reported before, foreign labourers always get judged unfairly just for being outsiders. Bigots will always be bigots, of course, and prejudiced Singaporeans are not something to be proud of.

Even when transient workers are doing a good deed, they still get some hate, as netizen Laura Dominique Yeap found out.

UPDATE: Zouk Singapore has responded about the controversy. "Zouk would like to clarify that DJ Fadi (Fila) was not at any point of time asked to end his set prematurely before the contracted set end time of 330am."

Originating from Egypt, DJ duo Aly & Fila have been busy bringing their super hot trance bangers across the world, exposing the global EDM scene to the little known scene in their part of the world. Though both produce music together, only Fila (Fadi Wassef Naguib) goes on tour, because Aly has to avoid loud music due to a severe ear injury.

Most people won’t bat an eyelid if you tell them about your latest getaway. But driving through 33 countries in a year? That’s the kind of story you save and file away for posterity. Meet Ben and Sophee Southall, the authors of travel website Best Life in the World.

Ben’s the one who made the news in 2009 when he beat 34,000 others to nab the position of caretaker of Hamilton Island in Queensland, which came with a huge paycheck and a luxe villa.

No stranger to adventure, he and his partner Sophee put in about 18 months of planning before they set out from Singapore in February last year. Some of their favourite experiences here included catching a glimpse of the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay, trying out local hawker fare and listening to Dick Lee's tunes.

After so much revulsion and hostility towards the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) over the tragic end to the case of Dominique Sarron Lee, the military had to defend themselves from further public castigation.

Last week, it was revealed that the family of Lee — the 21-year-old SAF national serviceman who died during training — had their suit against the SAF dismissed, and were ordered to pay their legal costs. Lee's mother wrote a heartbreaking plea to her deceased son in a viral Facebook post, in a depressing end to over three years of finding closure

All five were conscious and in stable conditions when they were sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Police are in the midst of an investigation.

Two suspected drug abusers have been arrested since CCTV footage of their very public and very violent altercation emerged online.

The footage — posted on Thelocalsociety Facebook page— prompted outcry by netizens over the brutality of the squabble, which saw a man dragging a woman down a hallway to the point of humiliating undress. At one point, the barbaric man even grabbed the woman up by her scalp and pulled her reluctant body into their unit, as her towel and slippers were left outside. We warn you, the video's pretty gnarly:

Many things have been said and many topics have been debated about the plight of young Dominique Sarron Lee the past couple of days.

It's been over three years since the 21-year-old national serviceman unfortunately died during military training over an acute allergic reaction to the chemicals inside smoke grenades.

Legal battles were fought between the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Lee family in the aftermath of the incident — but it was the most recent one that absolutely broke the soul of Dominique's mother.

After getting their suit against the SAF dismissed by the High Court, the anguish piled on for the Lee family when they were ordered to pay the legal costs to the Ministry of Defence.

It's like something out of a Deadpool movie — hopefully inspired by the superhero himself? Or, more likely, just mimicking the iconic buses of London. Whatever the case, there's exciting news in the realm of public transport. And no, it's not another train breakdown.

You're looking at brand new double decker buses by the Go-Ahead Group, a UK transport operator who've taken up the Loyang Bus Package, with 25 new routes based out of the Loyang Bus Depot, which can hold up to 500 buses.

The next time you head out to the boondocks — we mean, the Kranji countryside — watch out for two brown signs that declare the area to be a tourist attraction. With the stamp of approval from the Singapore Tourism Board and the Land Transport Authority, this new status gets the official nod on Saturday, due in part to the hard work of the non-profit Kranji Countryside Association, which has fought for the area to be recognised since 2005.

Yesterday, the Singapore Armed Forces wrote a public note on their Facebook page, recounting the key findings from the tragic death of Dominique Sarron Lee

His family, however, were not done with the case yet — they still needed further clarifications about an explanation offered by the Ministry of Defence. On the Facebook page made in Dominique's memory, they posted an open letter that sought to clarify their position and address other misconceptions that emerged throughout the saga.

Since the brouhaha that erupted last Saturday night that saw DJ Fila (of popular Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila) swearing off playing at Zouk ever again, the iconic nightclub has been busy quelling masses of condemnation lodged upon them.

Clubbers who had dropped by Jiak Kim Street to hoof it to Aly & Fila's thumping tunes had their fun cut short when DJ Fila (Fadi Wassef Naguib) ended his set in nasty mood. It was believed that Norashman Najib — the son of Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak — used his VVIP power to cut short Fadi's set, because he wanted to DJ too.

Insulted, Fadi declared to the audience that he'll never play at Zouk ever again in captured footage uploaded on Facebook.

This morning, the Land Transport Authority announced that operating times of Full-Day Bus Lanes will soon be hiked up by three hours. All 23km of them, and mostly in the city centre. The move is ostensibly to reduce commuters' travel times in the late evenings, so there you go. It's all for the good of the people. Just don't be surprised when operating hours go from 7.30am to 11pm on weekdays and Saturdays, come Mar 21.

A motorist with an obstinate prejudice against emergency vehicles took to social media to air his grievances (complete with dashcam footage) about an ambulance — but it looks like his plan backfired.

Clearly in the wrong end of logic, this aggro bro saw the ambulance (with flashing lights) from afar, but refused to give way when it was slowly reversing into the road at a HDB residential estate in Compassvale. After refusing to give way and honking at the ambulance in typical douchebag fashion, he rants on with colourful language from the Hokkien dictionary of swear words for a good couple of minutes.

We don't know 'bout you, but after travelling far and wide, a welcome home by Changi Airport is the most comforting feeling for us. It'll forever be the best in the world (in our hearts). So we're not surprised to hear of plans in the pipeline to expand and build a second air traffic control tower. According to TODAY, it's to cope with an expected 50 per cent spike in traffic when the construction of a new runway is completed in the next few years.

After being best buds following a visit at the Tesla Factory in Silicon Valley last month, real-life Iron Man Elon Musk is said to have spoken to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong over the controversial taxes dumped on Singapore's only Tesla Model S owner.

Despite his hands full with SpaceX's latest fizzled attempt at having their rocket make a return landing on their floating barge, Musk says he had a quick chat with PM Lee about Joe Nguyen's ordeal with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) over his electric car.
