Now that Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has been cleared of graft accusations following the completion of a review by the country's Attorney-General, his most prolific critic Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has fired new salvos in a blogpost.

Najib has for months fended off accusations that the huge payment made into his personal bank accounts in 2013 was siphoned off from a now-struggling state-owned company that he had launched.

Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali said a review of evidence compiled by the country's anti-graft agency showed that the money was a "personal donation from the Saudi royal family", but gave no further details. Najib was also noted to have returned the RM2.03 billion back to the Saudi Royal family.

A woman from Singapore was unexpectedly found dead in her hotel room’s bathtub in Pecatu, Bali on Monday.

Hua Ming’s mouth was foaming when she was discovered dead at Anantara Hotel by a room attendant and there was oddly a cup of coffee in her room, reports Tribun Bali

Police saw no indication of violence on the 50-year-old’s body during an external examination.

Ming had apparently been staying at the hotel since Jan. 23 with two friends (one from China, one from Singapore), but both friends checked out on Sunday, Jan. 24.

South Kuta Police Chief I Wayan Latra told the press that in addition to finding the victim’s body, police also found a cup of coffee and bread where she was found.

You've heard of SG50 — and probably sick of hearing about it too — but hold on to your seats for its sequel: SJ50

SJ50 is the new campaign launched yesterday that celebrates 50 years of diplomatic ties between Singapore and Japan. Already, logos, stickers, dolls and other SJ50 paraphernalia have been launched to commemorate the occasion. The mascot for Japan is of course their iconic Hello Kitty. The mascot for Singapore is a poorly conceived creature called Doritan, who seems like a genetic fusion of a foetus and a durian.

An unassuming Singaporean housewife has just been revealed to be a mastermind behind a syndicate that has been smuggling and selling used luxury cars from her home country.

The Star Online reports that the suspect — in her 20s — had been nabbed at her house in Taman Laguna last week, and is now being detained by Johor Customs Department. Enforcement officers also seized three luxury cars parked inside the compound of her house.

According to State Customs director Datuk Ramli Johari, they've been monitoring the case for some time now, and fully believe that the housewife is one of the masterminds of the syndicate.

SIA won't be the only ones operating non-stop flights to and fro Singapore and the United States. Come June, United Airlines will be introducing daily nonstop flights between its San Francisco International Airport hub and Changi Airport.

It'll be pretty long-ass flight too on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner which will take about 15 to 16 hours across 13,592 km. It'll be the longest scheduled flight operated by any US carrier, and the only nonstop service between San Francisco and Singapore.

Singapore is known to be a food haven for tourists all over the world. Our local delights such as Hainanese Chicken Rice, Laksa and Chilli Crab are unmatched in the culinary scene. Add in any other deep-fried items with salted egg yolk and you would be looking at an instant winner.

However, this does not mean that every food item in Singapore are worth the price that we are paying for. We have created a list of items that we think Singaporeans are currently overpaying for.

A word of disclaimer, just because your favourite food is on this list does not mean it does not taste good, or that you shouldn’t be buying it. In fact, we have multiple favourite food items of our own listed here as well.

From the middle of the Woodlands heartland to the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE), vehicles were lined up in a massive traffic jam this morning all because of an accident between an oil truck and a car.

The accident itself saw a 41-year-old man conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital around 3am. What caused the jam though was the massive oil spill that transpired following the accident. Channel NewAsia reports that oil was seen emanating from the back of the truck for hours, even till noon today.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force responded to the oil spill at 6.07am, but it looks like their cleanup weren't much use, considering the leaky oil truck. Barrels were brought to the scene to collect the oil.

As a bonus thrill in addition to those who are catching the alignment of planets this weekend, the Science Centre Observatory (SCOB) mentioned that stargazers will be able to see the International Space Station too.

According to SCOB, the space station will be visible very briefly tomorrow morning, from 6.02am to 6.05am — it'll be a very bright point of light skimming just below Venus.

You gotta get your time accurate though, considering it'll only be visible for three minutes. "Hence it's important to have a synchronised watch to get the timing right," SCOB wrote on their Facebook page. You can calibrate your watches against a GPS unit, or via online clocks."

Abalone's a pretty important component for a decent Chinese New Year reunion dinner — important enough for one man to go on a stealing spree across supermarkets for the delicacy.

According to the police, a 43-year-old man has been arrested over his suspected involvement in a series of shop thefts in supermarkets across the island. In particular, thefts of abalone were reported to the police over a couple of days since Jan 16.

Officers from the Clementi Division and Jurong Division worked together to establish the identity of the serial abalone thief and arrested him along Jurong West Street 61 yesterday.

The suspect will be charged in court tomorrow for shop theft, and may face up to seven years in jail and a fine.

Despite the scare of a potential cat killer (and copycat killers) lurking the troubled district of Yishun, the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) aren't convinced about that reality.

Channel NewsAsia reports that AVA's investigations so far have ruled out animal cruelty for seven out of the 26 cats found dead in Yishun since last September. The seven cats' death were attributed to non-abuse reasons such as natural causes and traffic accidents

Singapore-based shipping firm fined $180k for facilitating arms to North Korea

North Korea could have majorly scaled up their arms and weapon systems thanks to a Singapore-registered shipping company.

Chinpo Shipping Company made a huge mistake when they paid Panama shipping agent CB Fenton and Co US$72,016 to let a North Korean vessel — which had been from Cuba and was making its way home —  travel through the Panama Canal in July two years ago.

Channel NewsAsia reports that the incident was a breach of the United Nation's sanctions against the isolated nation. After all, the vessel had been carrying six trailers associated with surface-to-air missile systems and 25 shipping containers loaded with two disassembled aircraft, aircraft engines and ammo. All of which were hidden beneath 10,500 metric tons of sugar.

Art of the week: 'My Forest Has No Name' by Donna Ong

Donna Ong Fake Forest

Entering into Singaporean artist Donna Ong’s ‘My Forest Has No Name’ is to enter into a world of fantasy and imagination.

Ong questions the discrepancy between representation and reality by tracing the way that the forest is portrayed from the period of Singapore’s colonisation through to the present day.

She does this through a variety of mediums: photographs, antique prints, ready-mades, and text alongside original work.

‘My Forest has No Name’ presents a survey of different perspectives on the forest, and the opinions of its ecological, political, social and economic significance.

The tropical forest is a source of inspiration and fascination for Ong, who pored over books such as The Jungle Book and The Faraway Tree as a child.

Nikon Singapore gives masterclass in how not to judge a photography contest

Nikon Singapore photoshop fail

Nikon Singapore is being trolled aggressively after awarding a photography contest prize to an obviously photoshopped image.

“Yu Wei chanced upon a set of ladders while on a photowalk with his friends in Chinatown, and thought the view above would make an interesting perspective. Little did he expect to catch an airplane in mid-air. We’ll try looking up too, Yu Wei; your shot has won you a Nikon trolley bag. Congratulations!” the venerable photography brand said in a post on their Singapore Facebook page.

That's all well and good, except that the image was clearly an utter fake. Online sleuths very quickly pointed out the pixelated cut-and-pasted plane at the center.

Photoshopping photographer issues apology, claims that it was all a joke

Nikon Singapore dun goofed in the weekend saga concerning fibbing photographer Chay Yu Wei and his clearly photoshopped contest-winning entry.

With a barrage of memes, gifs, additional photoshopped images and endless criticism that must have torn Nikon and Yu Wei new holes, both parties have spoken up concerning the issue.

For Nikon Singapore, the extreme fuck-up (that really tarnished their brand) prompted them to issue not one, not two, but three whole explanatory posts on their Facebook page. Damage control it may be, but it's looking more like the controversy might have wrought a tremendous amount of devastation to the brand's reputation.

Good God, what is going on in this video. If the Singapore Tourism Board has a hard time with new ways in attracting folks to Singapore, they should consider Kenneth Tan's idea.

It's a simple concept — take a nearly naked muscular man, make him prance around local tourist attractions (throw in other Asian landmarks for good measure) and have him cover Adele's latest hit "Hello". Why, you may ask? BECAUSE OF REASONS. Witness the spectacle below and feel a cocktail of mixed emotions rising within you.

Posing for a group photo turned into a horrifying affair for a man who fell from height along Boat Quay yesterday.

TODAY reports that the man had been part of a group dining at the Riverwalk Tandoor, and had decided to take a picture outside the restaurant. Standing on elevated ground above an underpass, the group had their backs against the metal railings. Unfortunately, one railing was missing its top bar, and the man fell backwards.

An ambulance was called in around 1.49pm to help the Indian man in his 40s. While waiting for the ambulance, restaurant staff brought ice and towel to attend to the man, who was bleeding from his head.

He was conveyed conscious to Singapore General Hospital soon after.

The North East Line (NEL) get a splash of colour these couple of weeks as the Chinese New Year Themed Train rolls into stations till Feb 22.

The train itself is part of a collaboration between the Land Transport Authority, SBS Transit and the Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens' Consultative Committee.

Aside from being a simple festive ride, decorative features on the trains are designed to "incorporate social 'nudges' to encourage commuters to share their space graciously." The so called 'Prosperity Spot' in the middle of the cabin won't really give you wealth, but at least you're moving in to give space to other commuters.

We've always been entertained by the antics of competitive eater and YouTube personality Zermatt Neo, and his latest stunt is no less impressive.

The dude with the bottomless stomach recently took on a challenge set up by Food League Singapore, in which he took on a big-ass plate of roasted chicken rice and won. How big is this Mega Chicken Rice? We're talking about 10 servings of rice and a whole chicken on one platter — and Zermatt finished it all in just a little over 29 minutes. Seriously, dude's a champ.
