![ACM getting makeover, China Gallery will be expanded]()
The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) at Empress Place will undergo a makeover in phases from the second quarter of this year to the third quarter of 2015.
Financially supported by Hong Leong Foundation, the China Gallery will be expanded to a three-level, 900 sq. m. space, which includes a new modern wing to the ACM's classical frontage. The extended space will be used mainly to house ACM's Fujian collection.
The revamp, led by the National Heritage Board (NHB), will also extend exhibition spaces within ACM's main wings to house new collections like the newly-acquired Tang collection.
A new gallery will be added at the ACM's main entrance to provide an interactive introduction to visitors, familiarising them with the different galleries found in the museum.
Elements such as aesthetics, lighting, technology features and signage to facilitate traffic flow will be introduced to enhance visitor experience, while retail and food and beverage outlets will be integrated with the galleries.
The NHB is also working with the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) on the design and construction of a new entrance lobby cum gallery space that opens onto the Singapore River.
While parts of the ACM are already closed for construction work, exhibitions and programmes will continue to run within the museum's available space.
