Popular plastic surgeon Dr. Woffles Wu has been suspended from practice for four months by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC).
In 2012, Dr. Wu had gotten an employee to shoulder the blame for a speeding offence he had committed.
When discovered, Dr. Wu was fined $1,000, but he was also found responsible for suberting the course of justice through his act of dishonesty, something the medical profession will not condone. The surgeon's seniority and standing, as well as lack of remorse, were cited as aggravating factors.
The tribunal explained that Dr. Wu "did not give a second thought" when he allowed his employee to make the false submission and it was alarming that he thought it to be "common practice to furnish false information to the Traffic Police for such offences."
The suspension took into effect on March 24.
