![Lavender Food Square closing down to make way for commercial development]()
Popular hawker joint Lavender Food Square at Jalan Besar will permanently shut its doors to patrons later this year.
The food centre, together with neighbouring Eminent Plaza — both built in the 1980s — will make way for ARC 380, a 16-storey commercial freehold development, scheduled for completion in 2018.
This means that some 30 hawkers, including Albert Street Prawn Noodle, Kin Turtle Soup and Kok Kee Wanton Noodle, will have to move out in six to nine months' time and look for a new space to ply their trade.
Lavender Food Square, which stays open till 2am daily and can accomodate about 800 patrons, was previously called Bugis Square before drainage problems forced its closure in 1990. The food centre re-opened two years later after it underwent renovations.
Foodies and regulars, who've experienced problems looking around for parking spots and seats when the place gets crowded, will definitely miss the fond memories it brought.
