Hah, this is going to be rich.
A man has been detained by India Customs for illegally smuggling 20 gold bars weighing a total of 2kg and worth approximately 5.91 million rupees (SGD126,000)
According to The Times of India, the 36-year-old left Singapore approximately 10:40pm last Saturday for Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on a Tigerair flight. He arrived the next day at 1am.
His checked-in luggage had suspiciously contained several LED lamps, necessitating a thorough check by the staff at Customs which revealed eight gold bars – weighing 100g each – hidden in the lamps’ back panels.
