Burgers don't just go with beer and soda.
That's what you'll learn at local gourmet food truck The Travelling C.O.W's latest collaboration, this time with Hashida Sushi's head chef Kenjiro 'Hatch' Hashida and top cocktail bar Nectar.
The menu — Japanese-style burgers ($14 — 24 plus fries) and sake mixes — is pretty offbeat, but proves the expert chemistry of the unlikely trio.
The Travelling C.O.W is offering up their Wagyu 'Hamburg' Burger (top photo; 140 grams of wagyu meat and own-made hamburg sauce) and their signature Japanese Curry 'Kare' Ramen Burger, while Chef Hatch steps away from his usual Japanese fine dining to showcase the Sakura-masu (breaded cherry trout) Burger and the Wagyu 'Nikujaya' Burger, which includes a made-from-scratch wagyu beef stew croquette.
Our favourite (if we're allowed to have one!): Sakura-masu Burger x Japanese whisky sour
To complement the taste of your food — and judging from what we had at the preview these are some tasty burgers — you'll be treated to a host of cocktails, each customised to pair excellently with your burger choice.
See above photo for our favourite pair, though we'd also call out the Sazuki cocktail made with Botanist gin, yuzu, Jumai sake, grapefruit, lemon and applemint for being so damn refreshing.
Cocktails are $24++ each, but we hear the dream team's working on set prices right now. YAS!
Burger-Meets-Cocktail Weekends will be parked at Nektar (31 Scotts Road) on Fridays (6 — 10pm) and Saturdays (noon — 9pm) from April 18 to May 3.
