Breaking: There will be no water play at Singapore's SongkranThe event director of Celebrate Songkran 2014, the Singapore version of the traditional Thai water festival that's been making headlines the past week, has announced that there will be no water play after all.  T. J. Chin said yesterday that the organising committee has made the conscious decision to join national efforts in water conservation, especially now that Singapore is experiencing the aftermath of its worst dry spell in over a century.  Hence, there will be no celebrity water dunking and no water pistols. Instead, Celebrate Songkran will hold a Water Conservation and Water Heritage Exhibition.  Chin also expressed his keenness to work with the Thai Embassy here in Singapore, as well as the Tourism Authority of Thailand to incorporate more traditional and heritage elements of the Thai Songkran. "We hope to spread and educate more people about the meaning of Songkran," he said in a press release.  Chin also insists that Celebrate Songkran never wanted to replace the traditional festivities in Thailand. "We are an alternative — to be a venue for people who cannot be where they wish to be during this festive period."
