A new high-speed rail link between Singapore and Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur signed Tuesday will slash travel times between the southeast Asian neighbours from over five hours by road to 90 minutes.
The 350-kilometre bullet-train line from the city-state to Kuala Lumpur will "transform" the way the two do business, the countries' leaders said at the deal signing in Malaysia's administrative capital of Putrajaya.
Singapore's leader Lee Hsien Loong described the rail link as a "marquee project" that will "transform the way we do business."
The price tag is not yet known but analyst estimates have been as high as $15 billion for the project, which is expected to be completed in 2026.
"I know people are excited about it," Malaysian leader Najib Razak said, adding the project would "open a new landscape in terms of bilateral relations".
