On Sunday morning, during the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore, a 29-year-old man died after collapsing around 6.30am — 1km away from the Padang finish line of the half marathon.
The runner was John Gibson, a Briton living in Hong Kong. He was quickly given medical care and taken away in an ambulance, but he died in the Singapore General Hospital. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
Sport Singapore will work with organiser Ironman Asia to offer assistance to the runner’s family.
This is the second death in the race’s 15-year history.
