Folks scouring for a good deal to get turnt in this year's ZoukOut beach party turned to online platforms like Carousell, Craigslist, Gumtree and more, and found tickets going for dirt cheap.
Alas, their sweet deals turned out too good to be true. According to the police, at least 23 victims got cheated when they bought ZoukOut tickets online from resellers. In fact, $3,400 worth of fake tickets were lost to scammers who became uncontactable as soon as they received the fund transfers.
They would ask their victims to cough up advanced payments for the tickets before sealing the deal to deliver them. Some paid a portion of the payment as deposit, while others paid in full — all were tricked when the seller failed to deliver the goods and became uncontactable soon after.
