![Police warns of fake $1000 Portrait Series notes]()
Police warns the public to be cautious of counterfeit notes after three such cases were reported to them since March 2013.
A Singaporean received two of the fake $1,000 fake Portrait Series notes overseas, while two businesses received a similar fake note each.
All four notes feature simulated security features like a kinegram, security-thread and watermark and bear a nine-character alphanumerical identification reference '2AB6585xx'. Unlike the tactile feel of genuine notes, the fake notes are waxy to the touch.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore website provides information on how to identify genuine notes.
Members of the public who suspect they've received a fake note are advised to keep the note and immediately alert the police, take note of the description of the note's presenter, as well as preserve the note in an envelope, for example, to avoid any tampering.
