For frequent flyers or anyone travelling to Myanmar at the end of the year, take note that visa requirements between the country and Singapore will be lifted from December 1, in a bid to open up tourism opportunities for both sides. The change applies to ordinary passport holders, for visits not exceeding 30 days, and is subject to prevailing entry requirements. As of now, there are 49 weekly flights between both countries.

This move is apt, as Singapore's economic ties with Myanmar are growing — since April, Singapore is the second-largest investor in Myanmar, after China.

On Tuesday, both governments exchanged diplomatic notes on the visa exemption, witnessed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Myanmar State Counsellor and Foreign Affairs Minister Aung San Suu Kyi in Nay Pyi Taw.
