On May 19, a Malaysian-registered car was found attempting to smuggle six live puppies into Singapore via the Woodlands Checkpoint. The 43-year-old Malaysian driver was stopped by Immigration & Checkpoints Authority officers, and upon inspection, the dogs were discovered hidden in a modified compartment beneath the car's rear passenger seat.

The case has been referred to the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority for investigations, and the puppies are quarantined and cared for at the Sembawang Animal Quarantine Station, where they will remain for a minimum of 100 days. They will be examined for any symptoms of infectious diseases, including rabies, which can be fatal to animals and humans. Those who clear the health checks will be given new homes.
