Though it's pretty much a common fixture in the immigration checkpoints of other countries, Singapore will implement the BioScreen system to scan and capture the thumbprints of visitors coming to and fro across our borders.
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) announced that the new security system will be installed progressively at passenger halls of sea, land and air checkpoints from Apr 20 onwards. Currently, residents holding Singapore passports are already required to scan their thumbprint at automatic gantries — the BioScreen system will ensure that everyone else going through manned counters will also do the same.
