A former editor-in-chief of Malaysia's Utusan Melayu and a staunch advocate of unbiased press freedom, Said Zahari is more renowned for something much more dismal — he was detained for 17 years as a political prisoner in Singapore.
The 88-year-old passed away yesterday afternoon at 12.30pm in Malaysia, where he resided with his family after the end of his imprisonment without trial.
