The proportion of public carparks with free parking on Sunday has gone down, according to Senior Minister of State (National Development) Desmond Lee. In 2005 and 2010, it was 70 percent. Now it's fallen to about 55 percent.
Most of the public carpark spaces are managed by the Housing and Development Board, but others are operated by the likes of the Urban Redevelopment Authority and the National Parks Board.
As for the reason behind this decrease, Lee says it's because agencies have to keep the balance between the needs and parking demands of each area, TODAY reported. For example, in HDB carparks, where residents take up a higher percentage of the parking space.
