A hiking trip in Pahang, Malaysia turned into a fatal escapade for Nawaz Marican, who was swept away by a column of water while attempting to cross Sungai Kuala Luis on Saturday.
The 43-year-old Singaporean had been part of a 25-member team scaling the 2,187m Mount Tahan, Peninsular Malaysia's highest peak and one of its toughest treks. He was struck by the water column while crossing the river about 5pm, New Straits Times reported.
