When Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel responded to a call at a waste collection centre along Bedok Reservoir Road, it was a grisly find — a man crushed in the refuse compactor.
37-year-old Bangladeshi cleaner Ali had been operating the waste compacting machine on Monday when it malfunctioned. Lianhe Wanbao reports that he had tried to kick the machine but he must have gotten snagged and was rolled into the compactor.
SCDF personnel who responded that morning found the man "inside the refuse compactor of the centralised refuse chute with no pulse and no breathing".
