The Chinese New Year is coming soon, and Malaysian police will be taking advantage of the celebrations to get their hands on some money owed to them by Singaporean motorists. Unpaid traffic fines have been a longstanding issue for the traffic police in Johor — over RM6.5 million worth of them have been accumulated over the past two years said Superintendant Baharudin Mat Taib to the New Straits Times. Apparently, over 40,000 traffic offenders from Singapore have committed offences in Johor.
According to the Johor police traffic chief, an operation to crack down on traffic offenders will be conducted in conjunction to the Chinese New Year holidays.
