Who would have expected a simple fruit stall would be holding so much money? Two men somehow knew about it and carried out a successful heist at a shop in Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre, where they made off with half a million dollars. Police received a report on Jan 5 from the shop owner that his safe had been cut open and its contents stolen — cash amounting to about $500,000. Investigations revealed that the two suspects entered the premise by forcing open a ventilator opening on the roof top.
Within 16 hours after the report, police managed to establish the identity of the duo and arrested them later that night at a hotel along Bayfront Avenue.
