An Indonesian maid with a twisted sense of loyalty will be jailed for 10 years for the heartless way she killed her employer's 76-year-old mother-in-law.
On Jan 14 last year, between midnight and 2am, 24-year-old Yati used a pillow to cover the front and back of the sleeping victim's head. After making sure the old woman had died, she went out to the living room to talk with her employer — but did not mention anything. The household only found out at 11am when they couldn't wake up the old woman, and yet the maid still did not admit to the crime.
Yati later told a psychiatrist that she killed her helpless victim because she wanted to earn brownie points from her female employer, whom she implied did not have a good relationship her mother-in-law, The Straits Times reports. She only confessed to the crime two days later, but denied it again when she was brought to to the police, only to confess again the next day.
