National Orchid Garden SngaporeIt doesn't matter if you can't tell a Dendrobium from a Dendrochilum and a Dendrolirium, everyone is welcome to hang out at the National Orchid Garden. Like Gardens by the Bay, part of it is airconditioned. Unlike Gardens by the Bay, you can enter for free — at least until Jan 3, 2016, if you are a student, Singaporean, permanent resident, work permit holder or a visitor with a local residential address. The Orchid Garden, located on the highest hill in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, is spread over three hectares and has over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrids — with about 600 species and hybrids on display in four colour-coded zones. You've got "spring" for bright and lively shades of gold, yellow and creams; "summer" for the major tones of strong reds and pinks; "autumn" for matured shades; and "winter" for whites and cool violet shades. National Orchid Garden is at Singapore Botanic Gardnes, 1 Cluny Rd, S 259569. Daily 8:30am-7pm. Photo: National Orchid Garden website
