WhatsApp logoDon't just anyhow click the yes button, okay? A fake update for the Android version of messaging app WhatsApp contains malware that tricks users into entering their credit card information, warns the Association of Banks in Singapore. 50 Android phone units have been infected so far.  The update is prompted by a pop-up window while users surf virus-infected websites.  Once users click on the link, they are asked to enter their credit card details. The malware takes control of the smartphone once that information is entered. The malware is able to intercept the one-time password sent via SMS to the phone owner. "Criminals have been targeting computer users. But now, criminals have turned to targeting Android phone users... as banks are pushing out more banking apps for user convenience," Mrs Ong-Ang Ai Boon, director of ABS, told The Straits Times. Channel NewsAsia reports that the average amounts lost by the victims, who are customers of major retail banks here, were around “a couple of hundred dollars”. Some, several thousand dollars through multiple transactions.
