A team-up of epic proportions transpired in real life last month when a policeman, a paramedic and a firefighter worked together to settle some trouble on the streets in the late night.
It was date night for off-duty police officer Staff Sergeant (SSGT) Muhammad Fareez bin Makmor, who arrived at Yishun Fire Station at about 11.30pm to pick up his paramedic girlfriend Nurul Fatin binte Naim.
While riding off, they heard a commotion outside the station and saw a group of men scattering away. A single man was left behind, limping and bleeding from his head.
The couple acted quickly. Fatin got off the bike to administer first aid to the injured man, who told them that an unknown group of men had kicked and punched him multiple times.
The policeman knew he couldn't let the assaulters escape. He rode his bike back to the fire station and asked for help to apprehend the men. Singapore Civil Defence Force officer Sergeant (SGT) Muhammad Khairi Bin Abdullah stepped up to the plate, hopping on SSGT Fareez's motorcycle and they rode off into the night.
Two of the suspects were soon spotted along the main road of Yishun Avenue 2. SGT Khairi hopped off and started chasing them on foot while SSGT Fareez circled around to intercept the suspects. "The younger suspect ran towards me and I didn't know if he was armed," recounted the policeman to The New Paper. "But while I was trying to apprehend the teenager, the older man lunged towards me. Luckily, Khairi managed to reach in time to stop him."
Both suspects were later cuffed by responding police officers from Ang Mo Kio Division. Their six fellow accomplices were subsequently arrested within hours.
“While chasing suspects is not something I’ve had experience with, I responded because help was needed," the firefighter noted on the Singapore Police Force Facebook page. "I feel a great sense of accomplishment in assisting with the arrest."
It is unclear if the trio will find an official name for their team-up and if they're gonna star in multi-million dollar film franchises.
