Presented by   It’s time to start planning, or at least fantasizing, about a 2016 trip. Here are the perfect, unique destinations to match any travel occasion.   Solo trip in Asia: Laos This year’s all about Myanmar, so next year go to Laos. If you love Pulau Ubin, Laos is a bigger, more rustic version, with the chill vibes of a bygone era. Walk around the charming capital Vientiane for a day or two, explore museums and learn some Laos history. Take pictures at the iconic Patuxai landmark and get in touch with your spiritual side at Pha That Luang and the scenic Buddha Park. Make sure to visit the surreal Kuang Si Falls outside of Luang Prabang. Head to the touristy Vang Vieng if you must, but we prefer Si Phan Don. At the “4 Thousand Islands” you can stay at a family run guest house and rent a bicycle to take in gorgeous river views.   Family trip to North America: Cuba Instead of the usual USA, head to Cuba. We know you want to see Britney in Vegas, but Cuba is just starting to welcome tourists. Go now, before others do. Plus, Cuba is preparing to lift visa restrictions for Singaporeans. Yes, as of now, it’s one of the very few countries where you need a visa. Old Havana is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the culture is as vibrant as you can imagine. You won’t walk a block without seeing retro style inspiration and colorful street murals. And did we mention the friendly, inviting salsa music? Havana is a vintage lover’s paradise. Let the 1950’s cars and art deco designs take you back in time.   A friends trip to Europe: Estonia Eastern Europe is still in vogue, but instead of Budapest, why not try Estonia? You might hear Estonia and think Russia, snow and bears. (We do, for some reason.) Yes, they’ve been under Russian rule for as far back as we can remember, but this independent nation has a ton of unique experiences to offer. Tallinn, with its Baroque palaces and charming cafes overlooking town squares, is another UNESCO site we want to see before everyone else. The hilly, green town of Otepaa is also a perfect summer destination.   Couples trip to India: Jaiselmer There’s so much in India to explore with your bae (or your boo). Forget touristy Goa and check out majestic Jaiselmer. “The Golden City” in Rajasthan isn’t on many tourist itineraries yet, so 2016 is the perfect time to go. Visit during the Desert Festival; three days of song and dance in January or February every year. This ancient city is romantic, adventurous and historic.   Girls or boys getaway: Argentina Brazil was so 2015. Grab your group and head to South America’s new hotspot, Argentina. Yes, there's more to this country than just beef and football. Indeed, Argentina has glacial lakes, rolling grasslands and the Andes mountains for starters. Your outdoorsy buddies will love hiking across glaciers and mountains, and every evening you can dance the tango and enjoy local wine.  Honeymoon at the beach: Sri Lanka A honeymoon on the beach is a classic and if it ain’t broke we won’t fix it, but try Sri Lanka instead of the typical Bali or Maldives. Plus you can try famous crab curry from a different nation for once. Besides the enticing local cuisine and postcard-perfect beaches, there are national parks, historic ruins and the interesting colonial architecture of Colombo. And honestly, if we see one more picture of a couple in the Maldives on our newsfeed…   Anniversary trip somewhere new: Greenland My, how the years have flown by and suddenly it’s time to celebrate with your partner in a brand new locale. Or it’s that time of year when they start nagging you to take a vacation. We’ve all seen Instagrams of our local influencers in Iceland lately, so break away from the pack and explore the shores of Greenland. It might not be the cheapest getaway but what other place has so much untouched natural beauty? Go whale watching, hike through frozen valleys and discover Innuit culture. You can’t get farther away from our own island home, literally, and an anniversary is the perfect time to go to the ends of the earth with someone. Plus, Greenland gastronomy has a lot of unique dishes to offer. Fillet of muskox, anyone? With your new bucket list (and the right travel insurance!) in mind, you’re ready for a much-deserved getaway from Singapore. Just make sure you’re not falling for this Travel Myth.
