The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has reported a two percent increase in arrests of drug abusers in 2013 — 3,574 as compared to 3,507 the previous year.
Repeat abusers are the bulk of the arrested as they make up 69 percent of all abusers or 2,466. This is also an increase from the 2,415 arrests made in 2012.
Of the 31 percent who are new abusers, half of them are reported to be aged 20 to 29 years old.
However, new abusers below the age of 20 has decreased by 6 percent from 162 arrests in 2012 to 152 arrests in 2013.
