A flock of angry birds disrupted the travel schedules of 269 people yesterday when they collided en masse with Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight SQ391, forcing the plane to turn back to the Turkish capital of Istanbul.
Feathers were ruffled, but all 255 passengers and 14 crew of the plane disembarked without incident at Istanbul, according to various media reports. The Singapore-bound flight from the Turkish capital was originally scheduled to arrive here at 5am this morning, but clearly that didn't turn out well, thanks to the bird strike.
The extent of the damage was pretty significant, despite the fact that the Boeing 777-200 is a giant piece of flying metal and the birds are just, well, birds.
A relief flight has been sent and the stranded travellers should be landing at Changi Airport at 6.06pm today.
