A four-day-long weekend heralded the celebrations of the nation's 50th birthday, and naturally, Singaporeans decided to spend it away from home itself. Such is the longing to take a break from the country (and its incessant thrusting of SG50 in their faces) that traffic jams at both Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints have been excruciatingly slow and heavy yesterday morning.
Motorists have been experiencing jams of over five whole hours at the border checkpoints. It's been so bad that the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) have deployed even more manpower and opened up additional lanes and counters during the extreme peak period — meaning that it won't be a happy long weekend for ICA staff at all.
As of this morning however, it looks like there's not too much traffic along the causeways, so you better get on it before the inevitable (c)rush hour.
Travellers and motorists planning to head across the borders are advised to check out traffic updates on:
a. LTA’s Expressway Monitoring & Advisory System (EMAS) installed along the AYE and BKE respectively;
b. Traffic information hotline at 6863-0117;
c. Traffic updates via TrafficWatch on the radio;
d. LTA’s One Motoring website; and
e. MyTransport.SG portal (MyTransport.SG).
