Room prices of hotel rooms around Marina Bay area soar up to $2k

FireworksIf the thought of having a last-minute staycation at one of the hotels around Marina Bay ever crossed your mind, think again. Demand for an amazing view of the National Day Parade celebrations at the Padang has driven up the prices of rooms to the point that you'll have to cough up over $2,000.  TODAY reports that rooms in Marina Bay Sands, Swissotel, Mandarin Oriental, Pan Pacific and many others that offer a view of the parade this Sunday are mostly sold out. Those that do offer the remaining rooms however go for at least $1,596 before taxes. Swissotel's two-night package for instance costs a minimum of $1,965 (because 1965 was the year of Singapore's independence, etc etc).  Those who still want to get in on the action can still catch a spectacular view of the fireworks from the Marina Bay Sand's observation deck and the Ritz-Carlton's club lounge, but expect to fork out some cash to get access to those places too. It'd probably be kinda worth it too — it is after all the biggest fireworks display ever.  Photo: Fisher Chia via Flickr
