Man vs machine: Who is telling the truth?
The lawyer of taxi driver Tan Hie Koon, who is appealing his sentence of six months in jail and an eight-year driving ban, argues that the GPS data that was earlier presented in court was inaccurate.
According to the evidence presented, Tan was driving at 78kmh when he hit and caused the death of a 31-year-old woman in Geyland last Sep 2010. This was corrobated by another motorist, though the lawyer has dimissed it as "subjective", reports Channel NewsAsia.
The lawyer argues that the accident coud have been caused by rapid air loss from nail found in the tyre, and the "sudden failure of a mechanical component in his client’s eight-year-old vehicle, which had issues with its undercarriage that could affect steering control."
The judge is still deciding on the appeal.
