We thought the only pickup artists to steer clear of in Orchard were those looking for a good lay — but this incident proves us wrong.
A 28-year-old man, believed to be a serial pickpocket who's victimised shoppers on Orchard Road, faces a maximum imprisonment of up to three years, possibly with fine. The man was arrested on Jul 26 by officers from Tanglin Division after a female shopper reported the incident at the Orchard Neighbourhood Police Centre.
According to the police report, the shopper felt someone bump into her and noticed a man walking away in a hurry. Upon checking her backpack, she discovered her handphone and some other miscellaneous items missing.
Officers from Tanglin Division were on anti-crime rounds in the vicinity, and managed to spot the suspect and detain him in less than three hours after the report was lodged.
The pickpocket will be charged in court today.
