Mysterious oil slick appears at East Coast Park; beach closed off to swimmers

The beach was closed yesterday at certain parts of East Coast Park, but it's not due to monstrous great white shark. Nay, you can't swim there right now due to an oil slick, TODAY reports.  The National Environment Agency (NEA) were notified yesterday afternoon about the oily discharge, when beachgoers noticed the noxious fumes of petroleum in the air nearby.  NEA officers found a large oil patch measuring an estimated 10m by 5m near the shoreline of Area C3 at the park and promptly shut down a 100m stretch of the beach. Contractors were then deployed to conduct a clean-up operation at the affected areas.  The Maritime Port Authority (MPA) however maintained that they did not find any oil along the area. They informed Channel NewsAsia that no reports of oil spill from ships were received, and that their craft did not sight any oil in the waters off East Coast Park and eastern anchorages. Then where did the oil come from then? A mystery for the Captain Planet and the Planeteers to solve.  Photo: @gurms via Twitter
