16 Singaporeans have reportedly managed to escape safely when the bus they were travelling in from Ipoh to Singapore went up in flames along Malaysia's North-South Highway early yesterday morning.
Various media outlets reported that no one was injured during the incident and stranded passengers continued on their way when replacement bus services were sent to the scene.
The passengers were alerted to the fire around 2am, when the bus driver ordered them to disembark after sensing something went wrong at the back of the bus — thin smoke was already starting to engulf the interior. The 20-odd passengers managed to get out and retrieved their belongings before the Five Stars Express coach got completely engulfed in flames. Four fire engines were sent to the scene but the bus was already destroyed by then.
