People can be so competitive.
After Standard Chartered marathon finishers raised their arms in protest last year when even those who did not complete the full distance were awarded T-shirts and medals, organisers Spectrum Worldwide announced yesterday that this December's race will be stricter.
As Gladys Knight once sang, you have to finish what you started.
The organisers had diverted the slow-runners to a shorter route after failing to reach the designated checkpoints before the cut-off time, reports Channel NewsAsia's Noah Tan.
Speaking to CNA, Spectrum Worldwide CEO Chris Robb explained that this year “people who are running behind time will still be diverted, but we’d still give them the opportunity to cross the finish line. They’ll still get their results, but will be designated as unofficial finishers.”
Now in its 14th year, the Standard Chartered marathon is an annual event in Singapore which attracts runners from all over the region and the world. This year, number of participants will be limited to 60,000 across five race categories, including the full marathon, and will have an eight-hour cut-off.
The launch of Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore yesterday also saw the successful debut of Singapore’s first ever Digital Queue, which enabes participants to get ahead in the SCMS registration process using the hashtags #SCMS2015 and#DIGITALQUEUE on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
