Like all the leaders commenting on the worst public transport disruption in the history of Singapore, the Prime Minister was (wait for it...) very concerned over the matter.
As SMRT and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) rushed and tumble among themselves to find the root cause of the breakdown that crippled two major train lines, PM Lee Hsien loong dropped by the Bishan Depot to check out their maintenance operations and teams and was briefed about the situation.
According to SMRT's managing director of trains Lee Ling Wee, the disruption occurred due to a safety device that was triggered, causing power supply to trains to be cut off.
What triggered the safety device in the first place? Hell if they know. After working through the night checking trains, tracks and cables, LTA and SMRT still remain confounded and have yet to identify the root cause of the power trips — and worse still, it may recur soon should the fault remain unfathomed. "Hope we identify and resolve the faults quickly, to prevent further inconvenience to commuters," wrote PM Lee in his Facebook update. For all our sakes man, for all our sakes.
