Nearly two years after turning Club Street and Ann Siang Road into a weekend car-free zone — making it legit for people to parteh parteh in the street — the Urban Redevelopment Authority wants to take the idea islandwide.
Eight other spots in Singapore are enjoying the same vehicle-free dates, and your neighbourhood could be the next party hotspot, for realz. You'll even get $ub$idy.
The initiave is called Streets for People and the URA says it can award up to $5,000 in seed funding, as well as supply road closure essentials and logistical support for those with good ideas.
The important thing to keep in mind: the proposal must be a platform people to enjoy the public space. "Proposals will be assessed on three key criteria: location, timing, and activities. Applicants must operate or reside within the proposed area and have their plans supported by the local community," according to URA.
Every day a street party, does that sound like a plan?
