Sizzling Singapore: Hot, dry weather continues in July

You think you’d be used to the Singapore weather by now, but no, Mother Nature has to test your thresholds by making you sweat it out in 34°C heat.  The drier and warmer weather indicates the start of the usual dry season in Southeast Asia, which is triggered by the El Nino phenomenon. it is very likely that El Nino will persist till December, or even February or March next year, said the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in a report by The Straits Times. According to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS), warm afternoons that might hit highs of around 34 degrees celsius can be expected in the first half of July, while lower rainfall is to be expected in the next few months. The total monthly rainfall for August is predicted to be 15 to 45 per cent below average. This is probably Mother Nature’s perverse idea of heating up the party for SG50. Like fuel to the fire, the National Environment Agency announced last Friday that there will be an increased risk of transboundary haze in the coming months due to the drier and warmer than usual weather. Singaporeans have always blamed their poor sense of fashion on the unbearable weather, and we can only hope that it will not get worse.  Here are some tips on how to beat the heat, courtesy of the Singapore Zoo.
